Carl Deaton, CPA
Bob Hankins passed away on September 18, 2021, but his legacy lives on in the firm he founded.
Born in Olney, Texas, his first claim to fame came as a youth golfer. He graduated from Lamesa High School in West Texas and earned a collegiate golf scholarship at The University of Texas at Austin. He was coached by the legendary Harvey Penick, author of one of the most famous golf books of all times, Harvey Penick's Little Red Book. After graduation, Mr. Hankins worked for Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte). While working, he served in the Air National Guard.
In 1965, he partnered with Bud Heimer to forge the accounting firm that now bears his name. He worked at the firm for over 40 years before retiring to play more golf and spend time with his friends.
In the community, Bob Hankins served as President of the Rotary club, treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce, and Elder at his local church.
Bob Hankins was smart, hard working, honest, fair, plain-spoken, and dedicated to his faith, family, and friends. These are the qualities that live on at the accounting firm of Hankins Eastup Deaton Tonn Seay & Scarborough. Thank you, Mr. Hankins, for founding an accounting firm that has been known for its Texas School District Auditors and Texas Government Auditors.
"Golf is just an excuse to take a long walk with your friends." Harvey Penick, UT golf coach to Bob Hankins
